KYA F40 18 gauge galvanized brad nails are 40 mm straight-strip finish fasteners for compatible 18GA brad nailers. With an approximately 1.25 × 1.00 mm wire profile, 2.00 mm head width and nominal 1-9/16 inch length, F40 provides deeper penetration than short brads while maintaining the relatively small fastening mark associated with 18 gauge finish nails.
The 40 mm size is suitable for many professional finish and woodworking applications including casing, molding, chair rail, paneling, beadboard, cabinetry, furniture components and other assemblies where the workpiece and substrate require more penetration than shorter 18GA brads provide.
The standard F40 configuration uses an electro-galvanized finish for general indoor and protected applications. Stainless-steel versions are also available within the product range where greater corrosion resistance is required; confirm the required stainless grade and specification before ordering.

40 mm / nominal 1-9/16" length: suitable for finish applications requiring more penetration than short 18GA brads.

The 40 mm F40 sits between shorter 38 mm / 1-1/2-inch brads and longer 41–45 mm brads. This makes it useful when a finish application needs more penetration than a short brad but does not require the full length of a 2-inch fastener.
The correct nail length depends on the thickness of the workpiece, the substrate, required penetration and the fastening recommendations for the material being installed. A longer brad does not automatically provide a better joint.

A 40 mm 18GA brad can be used in suitable cabinet and furniture assemblies where the combined material thickness and substrate allow the fastener to achieve appropriate penetration without exiting the opposite surface.
Typical uses can include face-frame components, cabinet trim, decorative wood parts, panel attachment and furniture finishing operations. Thin cabinet backing may require a shorter brad, so F40 should not be selected solely because it is described as a cabinet fastener.
The 40 mm length is commonly used within professional finish-nailing ranges for casing, molding and joinery. It provides additional penetration compared with 25–35 mm brads while keeping the smaller profile of an 18GA finish fastener.
For thick or heavy trim requiring greater holding capacity, a 16GA or 15GA finish nail may be more appropriate. Choose the fastener according to the actual trim thickness and substrate rather than using gauge alone.
The standard F40 uses an electro-galvanized zinc finish. This provides basic corrosion resistance compared with untreated carbon steel and is commonly used for indoor trim, cabinet, furniture and protected woodworking applications.
Electro-galvanized fasteners should not automatically be specified for permanently wet, marine, salt-air or other highly corrosive environments. A more corrosion-resistant fastener material should be selected where the application requires it.
| Material / Finish | Typical Selection |
|---|---|
| Electro-Galvanized Steel | Indoor trim, cabinetry, furniture, molding and protected woodworking. |
| Stainless Steel | Applications requiring greater corrosion resistance. Confirm exact stainless grade, length and availability before ordering. |
A 40 mm F40 brad falls within the published length range of many professional 18GA straight brad nailers. However, gauge and length alone do not prove complete interchangeability. The strip geometry, head profile and magazine specification should also match.

For cross-brand use, compare the exact brad cross section, head style, strip alignment and nailer's approved fastener specification before purchasing production quantities.
SENCO's current AX-series straight brad range includes approximately 1-1/2" and 1-5/8" lengths around the 40 mm F40 size. This means F40 falls within the operating range of compatible SENCO 18GA tools, but it should not automatically be described as identical to a specific SENCO SKU.
When replacing an AX- or AY-style fastener, compare the head style and strip profile in addition to the overall nail length.

Yes. Indoor casing, molding, paneling, cabinetry and other suitable finish applications are typical uses for galvanized 18GA brads.
It can be used in suitable cabinet assemblies where the backing and frame thickness require a 40 mm brad. For thin backing panels, a shorter nail may be more appropriate, so the material thickness should be checked first.
F40 can be used in selected drawer and furniture assemblies where an 18GA brad and 40 mm penetration are appropriate. Joint design, material thickness and adhesive use should determine the final fastener choice.
F40 provides relatively deep penetration for an 18GA brad, but 18GA remains a light finish-fastener platform. Thick or demanding trim applications may require 16GA or 15GA finish nails instead.
The DEWALT DCN680 accepts 18GA brads from approximately 5/8" to 2-1/8", so a 40 mm brad falls within its published length range. Confirm the complete fastener profile before changing suppliers.
