16GA 516SS100 Stainless Steel C-Rings – 1/2"

KYA 516SS100 stainless steel hog rings are 16 gauge collated C-rings with a nominal 1/2-inch open size, approximately 1.6mm wire diameter, 8.5mm ring height and sharp points. The featured configuration is manufactured from SS304 stainless steel for fastening applications involving wire, mesh, netting, fabric, cord and related materials.

The sharp-point configuration is designed for applications where the ring may need to penetrate suitable fabric, netting or other soft material before being formed around the assembly. Common uses include cages, traps, mesh bags, cargo netting, upholstery, insulation products, rope and cord fastening.

KYA lists 100 rings per collated strip and 10,000 rings per box for the 516SS100. The current KYA specification lists a 1/8-inch closed diameter, but the actual finished closure depends on the pneumatic tool nose and forming jaws. Compatible 516-series tools can form the same ring to different closed diameters.

516SS100 Product Details

The 516SS100 belongs to the 16 gauge 516-series C-ring system. During installation, the collated ring is fed into a compatible pneumatic tool, positioned around the material being joined and formed into a closed C-shaped connection by the tool jaws.

Because the C-ring is formed around the assembly rather than driven like a conventional staple, the open ring size, wire diameter, ring height, point type, tool magazine and finished closure all need to match the production process.

Key Features of 516SS100 Stainless C-Rings

16 Gauge / 1.6mm Wire

The 516SS100 uses approximately 1.6mm wire. Wire diameter is an important compatibility parameter because the tool magazine, feeder and forming jaws are designed for a defined fastener series.

1/2" Open C-Ring Size

The open ring size is approximately 1/2" / 12.7mm. This compact C-ring format is intended for assemblies requiring a smaller finished loop than larger 11/16" or 3/4" C-ring systems.

8.5mm Ring Height

KYA currently lists an approximately 8.5mm ring height. When replacing another brand, open size alone is not enough; compare ring height, wire diameter and collation geometry as well.

Sharp Point Configuration

The 516SS100 is the sharp-point stainless version of the 516 series. Sharp points are useful where the fastening process requires the C-ring to penetrate suitable fabric, mesh, netting or other soft material before being formed.

Where intentional piercing is not required, the related 516SS100B blunt-point configuration may be more appropriate.

SS304 Stainless Steel

The featured KYA 516SS100 is manufactured from SS304 stainless steel. Stainless steel provides greater corrosion resistance than ordinary uncoated carbon steel and is useful for suitable exterior, humid and corrosion-sensitive applications.

SS304 should not be described as completely rust-proof in every environment. Salt concentration, chemicals, temperature, crevices, dissimilar metals and long-term exposure can affect corrosion performance.

100-Ring Collated Strip

KYA lists 100 rings per strip and 10,000 rings per box for the stainless 516 series, providing a production-oriented collated format for compatible pneumatic C-ring tools.

516SS100 vs. 516SS100B

516SS100 and 516SS100B share the same general 16 gauge, 1/2-inch stainless C-ring size class. The primary distinction is point type.

Specification 516SS100 516SS100B

Box Quantity 10,000 rings 10,000 rings
Typical Selection Applications where material penetration is required Applications where the ring primarily closes around the joined components

Sharp vs. Blunt 516 Series Hog Rings

Point Type Selection Guidance
Sharp Point Useful where the C-ring needs to pierce suitable fabric, mesh, netting, insulation covering or another penetrable material before closing.
Blunt Point Useful where intentional piercing is not required and the ring primarily closes around wire, cord, rope or another component.

The blunt version should not simply be described as "safer" in every application. Point selection should follow the materials, tool setup and fastening process.

516 Series Material Options

The featured 516SS100 is the stainless steel sharp-point configuration. KYA lists additional material and point combinations in the same 516 size family.

Part Number Material / Finish Point Strip Box
516G100 Galvanized Steel Sharp 100 10,000
516G100B Galvanized Steel Blunt 100 10,000
516GF100 Galfan / Zn-Al Coated Steel Sharp 100 10,000
516SS100 SS304 Stainless Steel Sharp 100 10,000
516SS100B Stainless Steel Blunt 100 10,000
516AL100 Aluminum Sharp 100 10,000
516AL100B Aluminum Blunt 100 10,000

These are separate purchasing configurations. Galvanized, Galfan, stainless steel and aluminum should not be presented as finishes of the same exact 516SS100 SKU.

Applications for 516SS100 Stainless Hog Rings

The compact 1/2-inch C-ring format is used where wire, mesh, fabric, cord or related materials need to be joined with a relatively tight finished loop.

  • Wire cages and animal enclosures

  • Lobster and crab-pot components

  • Bait bags and mesh bags

  • Cargo nets

  • Bird and garden netting

  • Wire and plastic mesh joining

  • Insulation blankets and insulation fastening

  • Rope and bungee-loop forming

  • Electrical cord strain-relief assemblies

  • Selected upholstery and fabric fastening

  • Nursery, landscaping and erosion-control products

The ring should be selected according to the combined material diameter and the finished closure produced by the tool. Do not assume that every 1/2-inch C-ring is suitable for every mesh, rope or wire combination.

516SS100 for Lobster Pots, Traps and Marine-Related Assemblies

Stainless 516-series rings are used in trap, cage and netting applications where improved corrosion resistance is required. Bostitch specifically lists lobster pots, bait bags, caging and cargo nets among the applications for its equivalent 516SS100 stainless C-ring.

SS304 provides useful corrosion resistance for many wet environments, but it should not be described as immune to saltwater corrosion. Continuous seawater exposure, chlorides and crevice conditions can require a different stainless grade or fastening specification.

516SS100 for Netting, Cages and Mesh

The small open C-ring is suitable for selected welded wire, plastic mesh, bird netting, cargo netting and cage assemblies where the joined materials fit within the closure range of the selected tool.

For chain-link fencing, heavy structural mesh or other load-sensitive assemblies, verify the approved fastener size and closure rather than assuming that a 16GA 1/2-inch C-ring is suitable for every fence system.

516SS100 Tool Compatibility

The most reliable cross-reference for 516SS100 is a pneumatic tool specifically designed for 16 gauge 1/2-inch 516-series C-rings. Tool model matters because different noses can form the same ring to different closed diameters.

Reference Tool Published Ring / Closure 516SS100 Guidance
Bostitch SC760B 16GA 1/2" open C-ring; approximately 1/8" closed Bostitch officially lists RING516SS100 as compatible; closest reference to KYA's listed 1/8" closure
Bostitch SC761B 16GA 1/2" open C-ring; approximately 3/16" closed Bostitch officially lists the same RING516SS100; demonstrates that finished closure depends on the tool nose
HC516-Type Tool 516-series 16GA C-rings; published around 1/2" open / 3/16" closed Relevant 516-series tool reference; confirm magazine and closure requirement
KYA C760 / SC760 Reference KYA lists C760 and SC760 for its 516SS100 Confirm the exact model and required closed diameter before ordering
Other 16GA C-Ring Tools Varies by manufacturer Must match the 516-series ring dimensions, strip geometry, wire diameter and forming jaws

Do not state that 516SS100 fits every 1/2-inch hog ring plier or every C7-type tool. Some C7 tools are designed for larger 3/4-inch rings and are not part of the 516 system.

Why 1/8" Is Not Always the Final Closure

KYA currently lists a 1/8-inch / approximately 3.2mm closed diameter for the 516SS100. This is an appropriate reference for a tool configured to form the ring to that size.

However, the same 516SS100-type ring can be used with different forming tools. Bostitch specifies the RING516SS100 for both SC760B and SC761B: SC760B produces an approximately 1/8-inch closure, while SC761B produces an approximately 3/16-inch closure.

Tool / Reference Open Ring Published Closed Size
KYA Product Reference 1/2" 1/8" listed
Bostitch SC760B 1/2" 1/8"
Bostitch SC761B 1/2" 3/16"

For production purchasing, specify the required finished closure together with the tool model. Ring part number alone does not fully define the final loop diameter after installation.

516 Series vs. Larger 16GA C-Rings

KYA offers several 16 gauge C-ring size classes. The 516 series is the compact 1/2-inch family and should not be confused with larger 11/16-inch or 3/4-inch systems.

C-Ring Class Typical KYA Reference Wire General Use
1/2" 516 Series 16GA / 1.6mm Compact mesh, cages, traps, cord and netting connections
11/16" 616 Series 16GA / 1.6mm Larger bundles and assemblies requiring a wider open ring
3/4" 16110 Series 16GA / 1.6mm Upholstery, bedding, automotive seating and larger wire/cord assemblies

Do not choose a larger C-ring solely to obtain more holding strength. The open size and finished closure must match the combined diameter and compressibility of the components being joined.

SS304 vs. Galvanized and Galfan 516 C-Rings

Material / Finish General Selection Guidance
Galvanized Steel 516G100 / 516G100B family for applications where the galvanized coating meets the service environment
Galfan / Zn-Al Coated Steel 516GF100 option where zinc-aluminum coating is specified
SS304 Stainless Steel Featured 516SS100 configuration for applications requiring stainless steel corrosion resistance
Aluminum 516AL100 family for applications requiring an aluminum C-ring

Material selection should consider moisture, chlorides, chemicals, contact materials and expected service life. Stainless steel should not automatically be treated as the correct choice for every environment.
